Wind Power Purchase Not Halted in AP

Amaravati: Dispelling rumours about halting power purchase, Andhra Pradesh energy department secretary Srikant Nagulapalli responded saying that the government has not stopped purchasing power, rather there is a slight change in production owing to changing climatic conditions in the state for a week.

"The weather has changed over the course of a week and this has reduced the power production," said Nagulapalli.

The secretary said that wind power depends on the speed of the wind, and climate change causes ups and downs in production. Nagulapalli said that AP has a capacity of generating 4000 MW of wind power in the state but currently only 40 MW is being generated because of weather changes.

He added that the energy department has taken steps to stabilize the power production in thermal plants.

Srikant said that It is not true that DISCOMS have stopped power from the wind or solar power generators.

Energy Department has stated that power generation from wind/solar was not sufficient to meet the load during peak hours due to bad weather. The production from 3700 MW of installed capacity and solar production from an installed capacity of about 3000 MW during the last 10 days at 7 pm is given below as an example.

It is seen from the graphs below thatwind is varying very low during evening peak hours of 7 pm to 10 pm when thestate needs the power most - wind wasvery low and uncertain.

There has been no curtailment of wind/solar during the period of load relief. Example of load relief on 29-9-2019 is given below.

It is not true that sufficientcoal stocks were not maintained by Government compared to previous year priorto rainy season.  The coal stocks on 30thSeptember last year and this year are given below.
