Tadepalli: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said the government is making a concerted efforts to build three major ports in the State, where Machilipatnam would be a key port. He also reviewed the livestock and fisheries departments at the CM Camp Office at Tadepalli on Friday. Minister Mopidevi Venkataramana and senior officials of the Ministry of Animal Husbandry attended the review meeting.

As part of the review meeting, YS Jagan discussed the proposition of building jetties at Manchineela Peta in Srikakulam district, with officials. Officials explained that about 12 jetties were in the process of being assembled in this order. The authorities brought to his notice that there were about twenty five thousand Telugu fishing families in Gujarat, who are either unemployed or migrating due to lack of fishing opportunities. The authorities said that they will be able to bring them back to the State by providing them with the necessary facilities and equipment for fishing.

YS Jagan said that steps should be taken to set up workshops to educate farmers engaged in fish and shrimp farming by January. Quality seeds and fish feeds should be supplied and there should be no scope for adulteration anywhere, he said. He also spoke about training newly recruited village volunteers and ensure that they work in coordination with the aqua farmers and ensure their well-being.

YS Jagan advised that the month of January should be used for recruitment drive for filling up posts in the veterinary and animal husbandry departments. Veterinary hospitals and clinics should be properly equipped to handle cases and he emphasised the need to use services of the newly recruited Village Volunteers.

The Chief Minister said that there is a need to issue health cards for livestock too. Through this, vaccines would be given regularly and the livestock farmers can keep track of their health. Traditional methods of raising livestock should be used and Village Volunteers should be involved in these programmes undertaken. He said that special breeding centres should be established to breed Murra buffaloes in Pulivendula and cows in Punganuru. He also called on the authorities to adopt sustainable and permanent methods to address the issue of food shortage for cattle in drought-prone areas. He also talked about introducing 102 Mobile Ambulance Vans for treating livestock in the coming year.
