Amaravati: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy convened the first review meeting with the School Education Department officials at the CM's camp Office at Tadepalli on Friday. With a focus on bringing in more students to government schools, asked the officials to implement revolutionary changes in the education system. Among the YSRCP government’s proposals, is the introduction of No Bag Day on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Students would not have to carry their bags and instead take part in sports, games and cultural activities on these days. This would create a stress-free environment and help the students to develop their personality in a holistic manner. As of now, there are about 30 lakh students studying in around 44,000 government schools in Andhra Pradesh.

In his directives, YS Jagan included the provision of all the necessary amenities, infrastructure, quality food and water in the schools. He held a discussion on the Mid-day Meal with the School Education and Akshaya Patra Foundation authorities asserting that the quality of food cannot be compromised adding that the buildings for cooking Midday meal must be constructed in all the schools across the state at the earliest. The agencies supplying the midday meal now have the allowance increased from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000, as per the orders of YS Jagan.

Since the Akshaya Patra Foundation is already supplying food for the Anna Canteens, he also suggested to the officials to utilize the services of the Foundation to provide mid-day meal to the students in the schools.

Mentioning that the review meeting is only a preliminary one, the Chief Minister instructed the authorities to submit detailed reports on all the issues related to the Education Department for the next meeting.
