Mangalagiri: Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan stoked controversy with his remarks that drew parallels between a beggar seeking alms and voters who take money to cast their votes in particular party’s favour.

He made these remarks on Sunday in a meeting with party leaders to discuss the drubbing of the party in the recent elections. “The other day I was speaking to someone who told me that they are paid Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 per vote. If we were to divide it for five years, our five years’ life value will be reduced to less than what an average beggar earns per day,” he said.

The comments understandably drew sharp reactions from politicos of all hues who pointedly asked Pawan Kalyan if he was trying to compare a voter to a beggar.

In the same breath, he said he was fully aware of the fact that politics meant huge sums of money. But Jana Sena came forward with a fresh approach making an honest attempt to reform the existing politics and staying away from distributing money to voters, he added.
