New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu's much-publicised trip to the national capital to meet the Election Commission of India for raising the TDP's objections to repoll in Chandragiri constituency, turned out to be a dampener, according to media reports. It is learnt that the TDP chief's entourage which met Election Commisssioners, Ashok Lavasa and Sushil Chandra, was shown video evidence relating to incidents of rigging in Chandragiri constituency of Chandrababu's home district of Chittoor. The TDP chief's team was reportedly shown footage of booth-capturing by his party men abetted by local election officials posted at the booths. While complaints were received by the ECI on rigging in 7 polling booths, at first the benefit of doubt was given to 2 centres since there was no tangible CCTV footage with the Election Commission, it is learnt.

However, the Collector of Chittoor on Saturday announced repoll in 7 polling booths as ordered by the ECI, instead of 5 announced earlier.

Reacting to the EC's decision for a repoll, the TDP chief reportedly fumed over his party complaints being ignored. On being asked by the EC to submit evidence to support his complaints, Chandrababu is learnt to have fallen silent.
