M Gangadhar Reddy and Jyothi  Inset: Bounced  CMRF Cheque

Kurnool: An issue of a cheque bounce case came to light on Saturday, when a beneficiary of the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) claimed that the cheque received from the CMRF bounced due to insufficient funds. M Jyothi had received a cheque for Rs 26,920 for her medical treatment from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF), which had bounced.

According to Gangadhar Reddy, husband of M Jyothi (the beneficiary), a resident of Revenue Colony in Kurnool district was suffering with a health ailment and had undergone surgery at a private hospital in Kurnool in November 2018. The surgery cost them Rs 56,000 and they sought the help of Telugu Desam Party In-charge of Panyam constituency Erasu Prathap Reddy for financial help through the CMRF.

After filing an application for funds from the CMRF the State government had sanctioned Rs 26,920 to M Jyothi and a cheque (No 073293) was issued in her name on March 5. The cheque was given to her on April 9 by Erasu Prathap Reddy and she subsequently presented the cheque for encashment at the State Bank of India branch. However on April 15, the bank officials informed Jyothi that the cheque had bounced due to insufficient funds in the CMRF account. This had left the couple flummoxed as to how the CM's Relief Fund could not have sufficient funds, as it was a fund that operated for emergencies.

The CMRF is an emergency assistance scheme for granting relief to deserving families and individuals affected by natural calamities or loss of life of relatives due to accidents or for medical treatment for major diseases. calamities etc.

It has only one account, which is in Andhra Bank, AP Secretariat Branch, Velagapudi near Vijayawada and at any given point of time, there has to be sufficient funds in the account. Incidentally, the cheque was given to the beneficiary just two days before the elections day of April 11.
