Telangana: ZPTC, MPTC Elections Date Announced

MPTC and ZPTC polls are scheduled to be held next month

Hyderabad: The TRS is heading to another set of elections scheduled for next month. The Mandal and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTC) poll schedule was announced by the State Election Commissioner V Nagi Reddy on Saturday.

The elections will be held for 5,800-odd MPTC and 583 ZPTC posts. In less than six months time, the upcoming MPTC and ZPTC polls will be the fourth round of elections taking place in the state. Telangana held the Assembly polls last December followed by the Panchayat elections in January this year and Lok Sabha polls in April.

Speaking to the media after the announcement, the State Election Commissioner said that the elections would be conducted in three phases.

As per the poll schedule, notifications would be issued for:

First phase - April 22

Second phase - April 26

Third phase - April 30

Polling would be held on:

First phase - May 6

Second phase - May 10

Third phase - May 14

Counting for all the ZPTC and MPTCs would be held on May 27.

Mr Nagi Reddy said that the nominations would be received for three days from the date of notification adding that around 2,870 Returning Officers have been appointed for the polls.

The total number of voters is 1.56 lakhs and the number is likely to go up as the voters were allowed to register their names till April 20.

Elections would be conducted for:

First Phase - 197 ZPTCs and 2,166 MPTCs in Medchal-Malkajgiri district

Second phase - 180 ZPTCs and 1,913 MPTCs in Karimnagar, Peddpalli, Mahbubnagar and Warangal Rural districts.

Third phase - 161 ZPTC and 1,739 MPTCs in remaining districts.

Keeping in view of the Parliament elections, the MPTC and ZPTC polls would be held through the ballot papers due to unavailability of EVMs.
