Malfunctioning Of EVMs Becomes Major Issue In AP Polling Stations

Amaravati: Voters in large numbers queued up at polling stations to exercise their vote to elect 175 Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha members in Andhra Pradesh. However, reports surfaced across several polling stations over glitches in electronic voting machines (EVMs) resulting in some delay in polling.

State Chief Electoral Officer Gopal Krishna Dwivedi cast his vote in Tadepalli after facing issue during polling as the VVPAT machine did not function when he voted.

He stated that complaints were reported about technical glitches in EVMs in about 50 places and technical teams have rectified the issues to enable smooth polling.

45,900 EVMs are being used for Assembly and Lok Sabha elections across the state. There were only 362 EVMs with minor technical problems. Officials corrected 310 EVMs with deficiencies. 52 EVMs were found to be technically problematic and have been rectified. Stating that there was some delay in the lack of proper connections, the CEO asked for easy voters to use the right to vote freely without any issue.

A total of 3,93,45,717 voters are registered in the state with 1,94,62,339 male, 1,98,79,421 female and 3,957 transgenders. Also, 10.15 lakh of them are first-time voters in the age group 18-19. The polling which began at 7 pm on Thursday will continue till 5 pm.
