Mangalagiri: Voting which is currently under way for 175 assembly seats of Andhra Pradesh today had started smoothly at 7 am, but was slightly dull in several places due to the malfunctioning of EVMs. Many people expressed their angst as they had queued up in the early hours to cast their vote.

The ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP), YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s YSR Congress Party and actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena party are the three main contenders in the fray this Elections in 2019.

Meawnhile the Telugu Desam Party cadre are going out of their way even on the Election Day and using the last minute opportunity to ensure Nara Lokesh's win in Mangalagiri. It has become a matter of prestige for the TDP as Nara Lokesh is the son of the TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu who allocated this seat to Lokesh. With a strong anti-TDP wave that has already set in the state and Mangalagiri being a YSRCP strong hold, the party has decided to spend any amount of money to lure the voters , even at till the last hour of polling. Mangalagiri constituency has earned the distinction of being the place where the highest amount of poll cash is being distributed by the TDP.

Exorbitant rates for the votes fixed

TDP leaders were fixing an amount of Rs 4,000 to Rs 6,000 and more for the postal ballots. It is reported that they have invested more that Rs 1 Crore for the 1,680 Postal ballot votes there. Money was being disbursed freely and election officials and police machinery have ignored all these activities.

Not just cash the TDP leaders are distributing fridges and ACs for families who vote for the TDP. Based on the number of family members they are distributing these appliances. If there are five votes in a family, they get an AC, if there are three votes they get a fridge, cell phones, apart from these, coupons to collect home appliances in a Vijayawada Electronic showroom are also being given. Looking at these gifts one can estimate the amount spent by the TDP which could run into hundreds of crores of rupees for garnering votes.

It is said that Guntur MP Galla Jayadev is pumping money into Mangalagiri as per the party high commands orders. They money is being distributed based on caste and community and the TDP leaders are moving heaven and earth to see that Nara Lokesh wins the elections which is decisive for Nara Lokesh's political fate.
