Who Will Bag Salur, The Tribal Constituency In Vizianagaram?

Vishakhapatnam: Just a week to the general elections, the reserved Salur assembly constituency which is going to witness a tough fight between the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will be keenly watched.

The constituency is currently represented by two-time YSRCP MLA Rajanna Dora who is expecting to score a hat-trick this time. His adversary is a three-time TDP MLA Pratap Bhanj Deo who too has a strong voter base in the constituency.

Both the candidates are Scheduled Tribes (STs).

TDP sources say that Deo has considerable influence in Salur town and the major panchayats - Pachipenta, Makkuva and Mentada - which add up to 60 per cent of the voter base. Again, Dora has a support base in the tribal regions of Salur, Makkuva and Mentada mandals, which are partly located in the plains.

However, the main voter base for Dora is in the Salur town, which has a municipality and the Pachipenta panchayat, which is a major panchayat in the constituency.

Elections to the 175-member State Assembly and all 25 Lok Sabha seats are scheduled to be held on April 11 - in the first phase of the seven-phase Lok Sabha and assembly elections.
