Chandrababu Can’t Enhance Unemployed Youth Allowance: EC

The AP Government is facing a major setback as the election commission has not allowed an enhanced monthly dole that was to be given to the unemployed youth under the Mukhyamantari Yuvanestham scheme.

This dole was one of TDP’s Major promises back in 2014 and only came to effect last year in October. The doll was Rs 1000 per month which the government wanted to enhance to Rs 2000. This was objected by the poll panel as the MCC was in place.

In several election meetings, Chandrababu Naidu had assured to bump up the dole to Rs 3000. With the MCC being in place, the state government had sent many proposals to the EC for clearance. Five other proposals among them have been cleared.

“The commission has directed to defer the proposal of enhancement of Mukhyamantri Yuva-nestham Scheme till completion of the poll in the state of Andhra Pradesh,” said a statement from ECI undersecretary KP Singh to Chief Electoral Officer Gopalkrishna Dwivedi.

But the TV advertisements of the TDP have been boasting of a dole of Rs 2000 under the Mukhyamantri Yuvanestham scheme. The state government put the proposal for the increased dole amount on the 21 of March.

Finance minister Yanamala Rama-krishnudu had announ-ced during the vote-on-account budget presentation on February 5 that the government had decided to increase the unemployment allowance from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000. Around Rs 1,200 crore has been allocated for the scheme against Rs 1,000 crore last year.
