Honour EC Orders: AP High Court To Chandrababu

In a jolt to the Chandrababu Naidu government, the Andhra Pradesh High Court ruled that the orders of the Election Commission with regard to transfer of three IPS officers including DG Intelligence AB Venkateswar Rao. Rahul Dev Sharma SP, Dr YSR Kadapa district and SP Srikakulam, Venkataratna be implemented forthwith. The High Court refused to intervene in the matter. It may be recalled that the Chandrababu govt approached the High Court seeking quashing of orders of the Central Election Commission transferring the three IPS officials. Earlier, it came out with a GO keeping the Intelligence DG beyond the purview of the election commission to the shock of the AP CEO as well as other senior officials.

Several retired IAS officials pointed out that the chief secretary of the state and the DGP could land in a soup for defying the orders of the Election Commission and pointed out the Chandrababu government was now a mere caretaker government which did not have the locus standi to issue a GO overriding the Central Election Commission.
