Maddikera (Kurnool): In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping into Handri-Neeva canal project after being chided by her grandmother.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Jhansi daughter of Bheemalinga, a native of Guntakal town in Anantapur district. She had been staying with her grandparents in Maddikera in Kurnool district for the past few months. Recently, her grandmother Eshwaramma chided Jhansi as she was speaking over the phone for hours. Depressed, she left the house on February 12 after telling her grandmother that she was leaving for her parents' house in Guntakal.

Jhansi reached the village outskirts near Handri-Neeva water canal project and committed suicide by jumping into the canal. Panicked over the whereabouts of Jhansi, Eshwaramma lodged a complaint with the local police on February 15. The police swung into action to trace Jhansi. On Friday, the police were informed that an unidentified body was washed ashore at Vajrakarur village in Anantapur district. A case has been registered and the body was sent for postmortem.
