YSRCP on Thursday sought the intervention of the Centre in the mockery of democracy resorted to by the TDP Government, which is engineering defections from the Opposition party. Senior

YSRCP leader Dharmana Prasada Rao said the way the assembly is being run is shameful. The members of the Opposition are being allowed to speak from the treasury benches. This goes against the business rules of the legislative assembly.

"On an earlier occasion, when our Party MLA Kakani Governdhan Reddy tried to speak from a place which was not designated to him, Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao had objected to it and he was right in doing so. But now, the Opposition MLAs are seated in the treasury benches and are being allowed to speak. This is a mockery of democracy," he said. This was why the YSRCP had stayed away from the session, he added.

He said when the Opposition attended the assembly, the sessions used to be for shorter duration. But, now, when there is no opposition, the assembly is running for a longer duration. Whenever, we gave notices for short duration discussions, they were disallowed. But, when the YSRCP members have stayed away, every notice gets accepted!

Even important acts such as The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013 was amended unilaterally. The Act was brought into force by amending the century-old Land Acquisition Act after thorough and wide-ranging discussions and opinion-building. But the Chandrababu Naidu government has amended it to the advantage of TDP leaders and entrepreneurs in the capital area. He demanded that the Centre intervene and prevent this mockery of democracy.
