YSRCP protests move to hike power charges

The YSRCP leaders on Wednesday staged dharnas and  picketed electric sub-stations in all the constituencies protesting against the Government's proposal to increase the power tariff.

The YSRCP leaders laid siege to the all the district sub-stations including Allagadda  in Kurnool, Venkatagiri in Nellore, Gudur sub-station, Nandigama sub-station in Krishna District, Perkit sub-station under Armoor mandal of Nizamabad District, Punnur substation in Guntur District, Dharmajipeta sub-station under Dubbaka mandal of Medak District, Siricilla sub-station in Karimnagar District and many others across the state. They warned of strong protests at sub-stations if the proposal was implemented. They demanded  the government immediately withdraw the proposal.
The YSRCP party activists  burnt  an effigy of the government.

Power tariff will ‘hit’ common man

Addressing at a dharna site by her party leaders and workers, YSRCP honorary president YS Vijayamma said the government decision to increase power tariff would be a heavy burden on the common man.

Hitting out at the government for its proposal to hike  power charges, Vijayamma said when farmers are facing hardships due to inadequate power supply, this decision will further put the farmers into financial crisis. She said that the government was only planning to burden the people on one pretext or the other.

Demanding the government to  take back the decision, she said in the name of surcharge  additional burden will be imposed on small and medium industries. Industrial production in the state will not be competitive with rivals from other parts of the country, she said.

After the demise of late Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy, the leaders have left the ‘welfare of the people to the winds’. He never  increased power charges. He only cared for the welfare of  all the people, irrespective of caste or class, Vijayamma said.

Criticising TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, Vijayamma said that the main opposition party was playing high drama by not calling for  the dismissal of the present government.
