YSRCP exposes TDP double standards on irrigation

YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his party MPs met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday.

YS Jagan and his MPs raised the issues related to the state of Andhra Pradesh and the non-implementation of the promises given to the state at the time of bifurcation. All the party MPs accompanied the YSRCP chief. YS Jagan briefed the media about what transpired in the meeting with the Prime Minister.

  • We met Narendra Modi after he gave time to meet us. We reminded him of the assurances given by the Centre to the state of Andhra Pradesh at the time of bifurcation.
  • We discussed special backward areas development, development incentives, railway zones and special status to the bifurcated state.
  • We also apprised the Prime Minister of our fears and apprehensions about how Pattiseema project could permanently put the Polavaram project into the cold storage. We also explained to him that the Clause 7E of the Godavari water disputes tribunal would enable upper riparian states to take away 35 TMCs.
  • We also told the prime minister that in the absence of storage capacity, Pattiseema project would be utterly useless. We said Polavaram is the storage capacity for diverting water to Rayalaseema and impressed upon him the need to expedite Pattiseema project.
  • We pointed out that Chandrababu Government had made meager allocations to Veligonda, Handri Neeva, Galeru Nagari projects. Water cannot be diverted to Rayalaseema if these projects are not completed. In effect, Chandrababu is merely paying a lip service to Rayalaseema region. We said the allocations are highly insufficient.
  • We highlighted the corruption and irregularities in the Pattiseema project.
  • We also brought to the notice of the Prime Minister that the Shantakumar Committee recommendation to do away with the subsidies to the farmers.
