NEW DELHI: YSR Congrss Party chief and Leader of Opposition in AP Assembly YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare special category status to Andhra Pradesh on a priority basis as the youth of the state are getting frustrated with the deprivation of employment sources after bifurcation.
During his meeting with the Prime Minister in New Delhi, YS Jagan also urged him to come to the rescue of farmers of the state by providing support for various agricultural produces as the state government failed to contain the exploitation by private middlemen at market yards.
Speaking to the media after the meet, YS Jagan said not a single agricultural produce including mirchi, turmeric, etc. is getting a good price in the market and the Centre should increase the quota to be purchased under market intervention scheme and state government should add its own support.
"To compete with the neighboring states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana, special category status is a must for Andhra Pradesh," Jagan said.
Jagan also urged the Prime Minister look into the case of AgriGold and facilitate the refund of the depositors by acquiring all the benami properties of the fraud company in which chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his son Lokesh are involved.
