Pulling up the TDP government for its laxity in allowing RTC buses to ply on an unfit road which lead to the bus mishap killing innocent students, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has said the State should own up the responsibility for the accident and the ex-gratia should be enhanced to Rs 25 lakhs.
“The fault on part of the government is very much visible and it should not play the blame game. Instead it should take responsibility and enhance the ex-gratia to Rs 25 lakhs as caution was thrown to winds with the absence of sign boards alerting the traffic were missing on the road leading to the trench,” YS Jagan Mohan Reddy told media after visiting the accident spot.
The contractor is at fault, the Government and R& B are at fault and it is very much obvious going by the lack of precautions. There are no barricades and no caution boards to alert the vehicles on the condition of the road ahead. This flaw resulted in the mishap in which at least 15 kids died.
The State seems to be taking the incident casually and has declared an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh and is trying to shift the blame on the condition of the driver and is looking for other flimsy excuses.
“As the mishap has occurred and the lacuna on part of the Government is clearly visible, the ex-gratia should be increased five-fold which would put R & B Department on guard in the coming days. There is no answer to the question as to why RTC buses were allowed to ply on a road which has such deep trenches and work is in progress, “he said.
The ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh should be given to those who were injured in the mishap which occurred on the Madakasira-Penukonda road in the morning.
