YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday consoled the Dalits, who have been hospitalized in a government hospital in Amalapuram.

Amalapuram: YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed concern over the attacks on Dalits. Recently, unidentified persons have brutally beaten Dalits on charges that they killed a cow. YS Jagan met the Dalits, who have been hospitalized in a government hospital in Amalapuram.

Speaking to the media, YS Jagan questioned the TDP government why it was silent on such inhuman acts.

“It is a matter of shame that such incidents are happening even in the 21st Century. The Dalit family ekes out a livelihood by collecting and selling animal skin. This is something they have been doing for generations and suddenly, they are being attacked for doing it,”he said.

Aravind, a saw mill owner, asked the Dalits to take away his dead cow and bury it. The Dalits, were skinning the animal before burying. While they were doing it, a group of miscreants came and attacked them. The Dalits were dragged out of the burial ground and were beaten brutally A Class X student was also beaten up.

Expressing concern over the attack, YS Jagan further said: “If they had done anything wrong, the people could have lodged a complaint with the police. But, the mob did not do that. It thrashed them. When the children came to the rescue of the elders, the children too were beaten. Even the police did not listen to the pleas of the Dalit family. Shockingly, all this happened in Home Minister’s constituency.”

YS Jagan found fault with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who visited Rajahmundry on the occasion of KrishnaPpushkaralu, but didn’t bother to console the Dalit family in Amalapuram.
