YS Jagan Campaigns In New Delhi To ‘Save Democracy’

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and other YSRCP leaders met Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav in New Delhi on Friday.

New Delhi: YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday met Samajawadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and apprised him of turncoats being made ministers in the Andhra Pradesh cabinet.

In a meeting that lasted for over 30 minutes, YS Jagan explained that 21 MLAs had shifted loyalties from YSRCP to the ruling TDP and four of those MLAs were given plum posts in the cabinet. He called for a re-look at the Anti-defection Law, in this regard. "Despite the presence of Governor ESL Narasimhan, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and speaker Kodela Siva Prasad, demoracy and democractic values are being suppressed like never before," YS Jagan told Mulayam Singh on the occasion.

"Several complaints have been filed with the assembly speaker regarding defection of MLAs but no action has been taken by him. Further, the swearing-in of the turncoat MLAs is a blatant violation of the democractic values and there is an urgent need to 'Save Democracy' by stricter implementation of the Anti-defection Law, he said. The Samajwadi Party leader expressed his solidalrity with the issues raised by YS Jagan.

The YSRCP chief also met union defence minister Arun Jaitley during his visit to New Delhi as part of his ‘Save Democracy’ campaign.

He highlighted the rampant corruption in Andhra Pradesh encouraged by the ruling TDP government. “MLAs are being lured and purchased from other parties without any respect for the law,” YS Jagan said and cited the instance of 20 YSRCP MLAs defecting to the TDP since last year.

The plight of AgriGold depositors was also brought to the notice of Arun Jaitley by the YSRCP party chief. He demanded a thorough investigation into all the business dealings of AgriGold company and its promoters. Hapless workers and middle class families have invested their hard earned money in AgriGold but were duped by the company, he said.

The union minister was also reminded about the promise of Special Status for Andhra Pradesh made in the Parliament. Citing the report of the 14th Finance Commission, YS Jagan requested the union minister to honour the committment given to Andhra Pradesh and its people by granting Special Status to the state.
