Woman set on fire by son, critical

A youth allegedly set ablaze his mother when she refused to give him Rs 10 to purchase an item in East Godavari district on Wednesday.

T Ambedkar (25), residing with his mother Durgabai (50) at Kadiyapulanka village in Kadiam mandal of the district, asked his mother to give him Rs 10 to purchase some item which she refused, they said. Ambedkar then poured kerosene on his mother set her afire. She received 40 per burn injuries and has been admitted in a corporate hospital at Rajahmundry for treatment. The youth's father works in the postal department.   Kadiam police subsequently arrested the youth and have registered a case.
