Woman Poses As Retired Teacher, Takes Pension Since 2005, Gobbles Up Rs 35 Lakh

Challapalli (Krishna): A woman, who is only a Class X pass, duped the government officials by providing fake documents to get pension to the tune of Rs 35.6 lakh.

The accused, who is identified as Vijaya Lakshmi, is a native of Yarlagadda village of Challapalli mandal in Krishna district and was arrested by the Vigilance officials. She had been receiving the monthly pension from the state government since June 2005.

According to the police, Vijaya Lakshmi's mother Kavuri Venkataramanamma had worked as a teacher in Mandala Parishad Prathamika Pathashala (MPPP) school in Vakkalagadda village in the district. Later she died in 1968. Her daughter Vijaya Lakshmi happened to meet a person named Ranga Ramanujam, who promised to provide her pension from the government. Ramanujam struck a deal with Lakshmi stating that he would take 20 per cent of monthly pension as commission for getting her the pension.

With Lakshmi agreeing for the deal, Ramanujam had provided fake documents, tampered the records and submitted them to the state government. Subsequently, Lakshmi started receiving monthly pension from 2005 as a retired government teacher.

If anyone questioned her about her profession, she used to tell them that she had worked in MPP school Kanakapalli village in Thotlavalluru mandal in the district. So far, Lakshmi had received Rs 35,64,648 towards pension.

She had also taken Rs 5 lakh loan from the State Bank of India, Kuchipudi branch. The police registered a case against Lakshmi and Ramanujam. The police are yet to arrest Ramanujam in this case.
