Chennai: A 35-year-old woman allegedly killed her two children and later committed suicide by hanging herself to a ceiling fan at her residence here in the city. Although the incident occurred on Monday night, it came to light when her relatives went to check on her at her flat in Pallikaranai.

The victim, who has been identified as Jihana Shah, was married to Sirik Shah (39) who works as a techie in the city. Both of them hailed from Gujarat state. They had two kids.

According to the police, the family had visited their native place in Gujarat for Sankranti vacation. After returning, the couple had a quarrel after which Sirik left home in a fit of rage and didn't return. Jihanna was depressed after her efforts to reach him failed. She had been in touch with her family members, the police said. On Monday, she killed her two children and hanged herself.

Her mother Neetha told the police that her daughter had complained of strained relationship with her husband. Jihana had told her mother that she would end her life, the police said. A suicide letter written in Gujarati was recovered from the house. The bodies were shifted to hospital for postmortem. The police are on the lookout for Sirik. A case has been registered in this regard.
