Woman Falls In Elevator Vent Mistaking It For Bathroom

Hyderabad: A woman (65) broke her leg after she fell into an elevator vent at Gandhi Hospital on Tuesday thinking it to be a bathroom. A native of Medak district Pochamma has been admitted in the hospital after sustaining injuries.

“I had gone for lunch when she went out looking for the toilet. She was directed by few people to go further left and she opened the door of the lift, stepped inside and fell down. Her cries alerted the housekeeping and nursing staff who pulled her out," her husband said.

Incidentally, the woman had come to look after a relative of hers who has been admitted here.

Following the freak mishap, a staff member said that few lifts are under repair and the confusion took place as no signboards have been displayed by the contractors.

"We are looking into the lapses and had asked the contractor to put up signboards wherever repair works were being carried out to ensure public safety," said Dr J.K. Reddy, Hospital superintendent.
