Woman Commits Suicide As In-Laws Force Her To Eat Meat

Hyderabad: A 23-year-old woman committed suicide at Miyapur after she was forced to eat non-vegetarian food by her husband and in-laws on Tuesday.

Swetha, a native of Sangareddy got married to Marri Chenna Reddy of Vikarabad in May, 2017. After a few months of marriage, Reddy and his parents started harassing her for additional dowry. Swetha's parents, who gave Rs4 lakh and 10 tolas of gold at the time of marriage, again agreed to give the additional dowry.

According to the police, the couple then moved to Miyapur from Siripuram in Vikarabad in September. Reddy's parents, who came to see the couple, forced Swetha to eat non-vegetarian food. Swetha, who is a vegetarian refused to eat the meat but the husband and in-laws forced her to eat it in front of them.

Unable to bear the harassment, Swetha committed suicide by hanging herself to a ceiling fan. The police booked the husband and his parents under dowry harassment case.

Meanwhile, the in-laws alleged that they had forced her to eat meat because she was physically weak.
