Why Was Ravindra Kumar Given Rajya Sabha Ticket

Amaravati: Amidst lots of drama, the Telugu Desam Party yesterday announced its nominees for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. The party Chief Chandrababu Naidu has now come out open explaining the selection of the candidates. After a series of meetings with several top leaders and potential nominees, the chief minister has announced the names of the party's Legal Cell President Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar and sitting Rajya Sabha MP CM Ramesh.

"Except for the TDP, all parties in the Parliament have advocates as MPs. This is the reason for selection of Ravindra Kumar. From the past 20 years, he has been serving the party pleading all our cases. As a matter of fact, it has been decided in the past to offer him an MLC seat, which did not see fruition due to unforeseen circumstances. Hence we have offered him the RS seat as a reward for his services to the party," Chandrababu told media in the Assembly today.

Prior to the announcement of the candidates, Chandrababu has met senior leaders of the party, along with potential nominees CM Ramesh, Varla Ramaiah and Beeda Mastan Rao. Even though Chandrababu was not in favour of re-electing CM Ramesh, his name has been included in the announcement, it is learnt. The second candidate Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar has previously served as the President of TDP Legal Cell and Bejawada Bar Association. He was also a member of Bar Council of India.
