Where are they going?

More girl children go missing than boys in Telangana. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, as many as 4700 children went missing in 2016. Of these, 2921 are girls and the remainder are boys. Of the 4700 children, only 1021 children (377 males and 644 females) were traced. Two years after they went missing, 3,679 children, including 1,402 boys and 3679 .

The reasons for children going missing include abuse at home, kidnap, abduction and trafficking. A National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) report revealed that on an average 44000 children are reported missing every year. Of these, as many as 11,000 remain untraced. These children could be exploited and abused. These children are often kidnapped or trafficked for prostitution, organ donations, employment, and such activities.

In neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, as many as 3324 children went missing during the same period.

Psychologists say that good parenting can help bring down the number considerably. Healthy conversation between the parents and children could solve many problems.
