What's the harm in dividing AP, asks Botsa

As if the prevailing confusion in the Congress ranks is not enough, APCC President Botsa Satyanarayana set the proverbial cat among the pigeons with his sensational statement that there was no harm in having two states for Telugu-speaking people.

While addressing the media at the Press Club in the state capital, Botsa said that when the Hindi-speaking people had so many states, there was nothing wrong in dividing a Telugu-speaking state into two. He added that the Congress High Command had a clear-cut solution, which would be announced soon. Significantly, Botsa's statement comes on the eve of the Chalo Hyderabad March proposed to be conducted by several pro-Telangana groups.
The APCC chief also asked people belonging to all regions of the state to observe restraint and said that a  solution would emerge very soon. He criticized Chandrababu Naidu's letter to the Prime Minister saying that Naidu wrote it to gain political mileage.
Botsa also said that permission for the proposed Telangana March was given not out of any pressure by some ministers, but after taking several factors into account. He appealed to the organizers of the scheduled March to ensure that it goes off peacefully.
This is not the first time Botsa has said that AP could be bifurcated into two states. Political analysts say that his statements are clearly intended to project himself for the chief ministership of the Andhra region, since the T-state is turning into a reality now. Of course, what Botsa seems to be forgetting is that the people of the region are in no mood to bring the Congress to power. But then, power blinds you to reality, as Botsa will know when he sets out on the campaign trail, be it a united AP or a truncated one.
