What prompted TDP gen secy to decide not to contest next polls

What prompted senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary’s to decide against contesting the next elections? Is it because he felt ignored by the party leadership or it is the dwindling image of the TDP that forced the former minister against testing his luck in the polls.

Butchaiah Chowdary, the TDP state general secretary, today announced in Rajahmundry that he would not contest the next Assembly polls and that he would leave the space for the younger generation. Without giving any room for speculation on his possible desertion of the TDP, Butchaiah Chowdary was quick in making it clear that he would continue to strive for strengthening the party in the region. The former minister, however, did not mention any particular reason as to why he has taken such a drastic decision of not to be race for the polls.

However, Chowdary’s announcement has surprised the TDP leaders in Hyderabad. Soon after his press conference, which was aired by the electronic media, the party seniors at the State capital began reading into his remarks. While some pointed out that he has already been keeping a low profile because of some ‘personal’ reasons, some others believed that he might have felt ignored by the leadership which forced him to come to the conclusion. Other quarters are of the opinion that Chowdary, a seasoned politician, is totally disturbed at the deep differences in the local party unit and thus, he has taken the decision. But all of them are hopeful that party president Chandrababu Naidu will prevail upon the senior leader into changing his mind.
