Watchout! Non-Veg Food Served On Your Platter Could Be Dog’s Meat

Vijayawada: Watchout! The next time you order a mouth-watering non-veg dish, be sure it's not dog meat. Chances are that dog meat could be peddled as mutton.

The police arrested two persons from Mylavaram, 37 kms from Vijaywada city, for supplying dog meat to various hotels and popular food chains in the city and elsewhere in Krishna district. According to the police, the accused -- Katta Aadinarayana and Segu Lakshmana Rao -- were caught in Koduru village in Konduru mandal while flaying the skin of a killed dog. The villagers thrashed them and handed them over to the police.

The accused admitted that they they trap dogs, kill them, remove their skin and sell the meat to the hotels and restaurants through some dealers. The police learnt that the accused were selling dog meat at prices ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 400 per kg by claiming that the meat was that of wild prey from the forest. A case has been registered against them and investigation is on.

Recently, few Chennai hotels were caught selling cat meat. On a tip-off from People For Animals (PFA), the police had arrested the food chain owners and rescued a large number of cats.
