Village to appoint girl topper as sarpanch for a day
A village panchayat in Hisar district has decided to appoint a school topper as a sarpanch of the village for a day on the occasion of Independence Day, even as the rules don’t exactly permit this.
According to the sarpanch of Dhansu village, Manohar Lal Bhakhar, they would finalize the name of the girl to be nominated as the sarpanch on Saturday. The move is aimed at boosting the morale of the village girls, Bhakhar added. The panchayat is looking for a topper in Class XII in the village. For a day, she will be allowed to decide about developmental works to be carried out in the village.
One of the contenders, Sushila Khator, secured 81%, while another contender, Aarti, got 87.2% in Class XII. If given the chance for the sarpanch post, Khator said, she will make a formal demand to the government for providing special buses for school and college girls going to Hisar for education.
