Vijayawada Groundwater Highly Polluted: Study

Vijayawada: A study carried out by the southern region of Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) found high levels of contamination in the groundwater. The baseline samples were collected from Vijayawada and its surrounding areas. The study was published in the latest issue of ‘Journal of the Geological Society of India'.

The study was carried out in Vijayawada as the new capital region Amaravati is coming up in the vicinity and the data wills serve as a reference point for further studies in Vijayawada-Amaravati region

The baseline date showed that the groundwater is highly pollutant with nitrate, phosphate, faecal coliform, sodium, magnesium, calcium and potassium.

The study was carried out in Vijayawada as the new capital region Amaravati is coming up in the vicinity and the data wills serve as a reference point for further studies in Vijayawada-Amaravati region.

The earlier reports on groundwater contamination pointed out at the thermal power stations at Ibrahimpatnam and also unscientific dumping of garbage.
