Vijayamma takes Gandhi's route for people

After realising that mere pressure will not melt the government's heart, the YSR Congress party has decided to walk in the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi resorted to Satyagraha to protest against the tax on salt.

Similarly, YS Vijayamma, the wife of late Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy and honourary president of YSR Congress Party began her indefinite hunger strike at New MLA quarters in Hyderabad demanding rollback of the power tariff hike.

Vijayamma made it clear that their agitation would continue till the government withdrew the power tariff hike. Speaking on the occasion Vijayamma said: "Kiran's government has put a huge burden on the public. People get electricity bills without access to power supply."

She alleged that the farmers had suffered a loss to the tune of crores of rupees after losing crops. Scores of them even committed suicides after facing acute power shortage, she said.
She recalled how YSR had given farmers access to free power supply unable to see their plight. During YSR's rule, the free power supply scheme had been implemented for the benefit of the farmers. However, after his demise the Kiran's government dumped that scheme. The YSRCP honourary president openly questioned the government as to how the public can pay the bills if it increased the power charges.

She also reminded people of her son and YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's protest against anti-people policies of the Congress government.

She also lashed out at TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu for not favoring the no-confidence motion passed against the government in the Assembly. "Public wouldn't be in distress had Naidu backed the move against the ruling party," she lamented.

Vijayamma, along with her party MLAs and party activists paid tributes to YSR at Punjagutta Circle and the martyrs of Basheerbagh firing. They went to the MLA quarters by walk before starting the indefinite fast.
