Vijayamma demands compensation for flood victims
YSR Congress Party honorary president YS Vijayamma on Thursday demanded the government to pay compensation of Rs 25,000 to farmers whose cotton crops were damaged due to the recent heavy rains caused by cyclone Neelam and Rs 20,000 to farmers who cultivated chilly crops.
Vijayamma who is touring in flood-affected areas said that due to the heavy rains, crops were damaged in a large area affecting thousands of farmers.
The committee appointed by the Central Government is conducting a survey, however, Vijayamma said that farmers will be forced to wait endlessly, before any recommendations are made regarding the compensation.
She visited the damaged farmlands at Tirumalayapalem in Khammam district today. Talking to the farmers she assured them YSRCP would bring pressure on the Government to ensure proper compensation is paid to the farmers who have lost their crops.
