Bengaluru: After a cinematic entry into the political world, Kannada star Upendra has now made it clear that he will not contest in this year's Karnataka assembly elections. He plunged into politics last October with a promise to bring transparency in every sphere of governance. To this effect he joined hands with Karnataka Pragnyavanta Janata Paksha (KPJP) and had plans to even contest this assembly election by putting up candidates in all 224 seats.

Unfortunately, the marriage between Upendra and his party KPJP failed to last for more than five months resulting in Uppi quitting the party on March 6. Without any party to call his for the elections, Uppi is not in n race for the 2019 general elections.

Talking about his renewed plans to the media, Upendra said that he would soon be meeting the Election Commission in Delhi and register a new party called Prajakeeya. "The process should be completed by this month end and we will prepare for the elections next year," he informed.

Upendra claims that he had to leave KPJP since the party was selling tickets to dubious candidates. He said that he was happy to have understood the KPJP in early stages itself. "It is a temporary setback. I too would have become corrupt if I had gone with KPJP. There are around 100 people who still believe in my ideology and it would be my starting point for the new party,” he added.
