Hyderabad: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) for social justice at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) on Tuesday demanded the removal of chief proctor Prof Alok Pandey to ensure a fair inquiry into the scuffle that took place between two groups of students.

The JAC said that the reason behind their move is that they don’t believe on the proctorial board which will look into the scuffle that happened between ABVP and other students on Kasmir row.

“We demand immediate removal of Prof Alok Pandey as the chief proctor to ensure an impartial and fair enquiry,” it said in a letter to the varsity registrar, in the wake of a complaint filed by the MPhil student Amol Singh about an alleged attack on him by the ABVP members.

A scuffle broke out between two groups of students on Saturday after a meeting was held to condemn the police action against protesters in Jammu and Kashmir. Singh alleged that ABVP leader Susheel Kumar beat him up, thinking he was a Kashmiri. Sushi Kumar alleged that these students raised separatist slogans after the meeting.

JAC alleged that Pandey’s biased reports on alleged manhandling of Sushi Kumar by members of Ambedkar Students Association in August last year led to action against Vemula and four others.

The biased inquiry and reports by the chief proctor in Vemula’s case puts a question mark on credibility of the proctorial board, it claimed.
