Untimely rain and enormous losses

Cotton fields are drenched, mango orchards  in flowering stage are down in the mud, terrible losses to the vegetable crops

No supply of electricity , because the wires are cut and the production of coal has come to a dead stop

Some trees uprooted had fallen on the railway tracks and hence there was interruption to the running of trains …… 15 people died due to rains

There was total disruption of life in  Hyderabad whose citizens suffered hell due to heavy traffic jams

Untimely rains and gusty winds created havoc in the state since Friday night. Hailstorms caused extensive damage to the standing crops in lakhs of fields. There was severe interruption to the supply of electricity due to the snapping of the wires and burnt transformers. There were many villages along with Chittoor which remained in total darkness. The farmers in Telangana Districts suffered heavy losses. Life in Hyderabad came to a standstill with pouring rain , thunder and lightning. Roads in Banjara Hills , Jubilee Hills, Khairathabad, Panjagutta, Ameerpet Secunderabad, and Begumpet  were overflowing with storm water and caused great inconvenience to the vehicle drivers. A number of houses in Shamshabad and other suburbs of Hyderabad got damaged due to hailstorms. The Dept of Agriculture received information that 52,477 acres of crops were damaged due to rains.
It was estimated that the loss in Guntur District for the chilli crop was to the tune of 25 crores . There are 10 thousand acres of Mango orchards in Ulavapadu  mandal which were in flowering stage . They were damaged heavily.

Temples also got damaged

In Krishna District, in Jaggayyapeta mandalam in Mukthyala village, there were  huge cracks from top to bottom in the temple of Vijayaganapathi. The statues of Vishnu and Brahma on the top became partially damaged.

Great losses in Telangana Districts

The hail storm damaged crops like turmeric, chilli , maize in many districts. It was estimated that various crops were damaged in 32,456 acres in the districts of Adilabad, Karimnahar, nNzamabad , Warangal and khammam.

A little bit of comfort

These untimely rains brought some solace to the farmers in East and west Gadavari, Ananthapur, Kurnool and YSR districts.

Disruption of Rail traffic and the production of coal 

In  Adilabad , karimnagar , Warangal and Khammam districts the production of coal in opencast mines came to a halt. A number of trains were either cancelled or diverted.
CM Kiran Kumar Reddy reviewed the losses due to rains with the chief Secretary Minni Mathews and asked her to give instructions to all the District collectors to assess the losses and provide immediate help to the farmers who lost their crops.
