Two top cops approach CAT challenging appointments

Hyderabad, Two senior IPS officers T P Das and S A Huda approached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) here on Friday, challenging appointments made by Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments for the post of Director General of Police (DGP).

Anurag Sharma has been appointed in-charge DGP of Telangana and J V Ramudu is the DGP of Andhra Pradesh.

Das and Huda, who moved the Hyderabad bench of the CAT this evening also objected to the allotment of certain IPS officers to the Telangana cadre alleging it was injustice to seniors while favouring some juniors.

Former IAS officer Mohammed Shafiquzzaman, who filed a writ on behalf of Das and Huda in CAT said, the allocation of IPS officers made even temporarily for Telangana cadre is arbitrary, irrational, illegal and with malafide intention.

Shafiquzzaman contended that the cadre allotment was against the mandate of the AP Re-organisation Bill since the allotment should be done in consultation with the state government.

Das and Huda belong to the 1979 batch and are in the AP cadre, while Anurag Sharma, is an officer of 1982 batch hailing from Rajasthan and J V Ramudu of the 1981 batch hails from Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.

The writ was filed against the Centre, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states, as well as Chief Secretaries of both the states.
