Two held for duping 83 jobless youths of Rs 1 crore

Hyderabad, City Police on Friday nabbed two persons of a local firm, which allegedly cheated over 80 unemployed youths to the tune Rs 1 crore after promising them jobs in Switzerland.

Two accused, Durga Pavan and Yousuf, have been taken into custody and are being questioned in connection with the job racket, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Zone) V Satyanarayana said tonight.

A local firm collected amounts ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.6 lakh from as many as 83 persons (59 from Warangal district of Telangana and 24 from East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh) after promising them with jobs of labourers in a chemical company in Switzerland, the DCP said.

The job seekers were asked to come to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad here where they were supposed to get the work orders along with passports and visa documents.

However, the job offer turned out to be false as except the passports, other documents were found to be fictitious, police said. Following a complaint to the Punjagutta police station by the victims, the firm's two officials Durga Pavan and Yousuf were taken into custody.

However, both of them revealed that the kingpin of the racket is one Pranith, who was supposed to bring the work orders and other documents to the airport today, but he failed to do so, the senior police officer said. Further investigations were on.
