Two drown in freak mishap in Visakhapatnam

Two persons drowned in a freak mishap involving a wood-laden container trailer at Gangavaram Port Ltd (GPL) near Visakhapatnam in the wee hours of Monday, police said.

The mishap took place when the trailer driver was reversing the vehicle after unloading the cargo at berth No.3 of the port, about 15km from here, they said. The driver, G Satyanarayana (26) reportedly lost control over the vehicle due to drowsiness and the trailer fell into the seawaters. His assistant K Kishore (21), who was inside the driving cabin, too met the watery grave, police said. Both Satyanarayana and Kishore unsuccessfully tried to jump out of the vehicle when it was about to plunge into the sea, they said. Some GPL workers tried to rescue the duo by jumping into the waters but they failed to locate either of them, police added.
