Tweet saves orphan girl from trafficking

From complaints on the quality of food to providing medical assistance on trains, railways authorities have been responding immediately to the passengers’ tweets lately. In one such incident, Radha, a 19-year-old girl, being trafficked by two men from Hyderabad to New Delhi, was rescued from their clutches on the Telangana Express on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old, who did not know where the men were taking her, wrote a note saying she in an orphan and a student. In the note, she also mentioned that the two men were taking her to Delhi against her will and also requested her co-passengers if they could give her any information about a train to Siliguri.

In a quick response to a tweet from Divyansh Khunteta, a relative of the person who found the note, Director of Information and Publicity, Railway Board – Ved Prakesh passed on the information to Chief Public Relations Officer, South Central Railway.

Based on the given information, Railway Protection Force (RPF) rushed to the coach as soon as the train reached Ramagundam Station and rescued the girl.

Radha, a resident of Alipurduar in West Bengal, was sent to an NGO for further investigation.

The two men were arrested.
