Tsunami Warning for Chennai

Chennai: Just limping back to normalcy after a devastating cyclone, Chennai is facing yet another threat of Tsunami.

National Maritime Information Center (NMIC) in a release on Sunday warned that the sea levels would rise up to eight to 10 feet high and can cause serious damage on the coastal area from Kulachchal in Kanyakumari district to Keelakkarai in Ramanathapuram district. The impact of gales and stormy waves would last till Monday night, the warning said.

As the gales are at a speed of 44km to 55km per hour from the north-eastern direction, fishermen are asked not to go into the sea. The sea levels at Kanyakumari already rose and all transport at Vivekananda and Tiruvalluvar statues was closed. Tsunami rescue teams are alerted.
