Truck driver kills live-in partner

Jajpur (Odisha): A 30-year-old woman was killed allegedly by a man stated to be her live-in partner at a village in Kaliapani area in Odisha’s Jajpur district, the police said.

The incident took place at Ostapal village yesterday and the accused person has been absconding after allegedly committing the crime, said Yubraj Swain, Inspector In-charge of Kaliapani police station.

Bimala Dehury, mother of the deceased, filed an FIR with the Kaliapani police in this regard after which a case was registered under section 302 of the IPC and investigation started, he said adding efforts were on to nab the accused, Niranjan Mallik (35), a father of two.

The deceased woman was earlier married to another man in Dhenkanal district about 12 years ago. The couple has two daughters from their eight years of marriage. She was deserted by her husband in 2012 and was living at her parent’s house along with her two children, mother and a brother at Ostapal village, the police said.

Later, the woman fell in love with Mallik, a truck driver of Kamakshyanagar area in Dhenkanal district four years ago following which, they entered into a live-in relationship.

The couple was also residing at Jharana’s parental house in Ostapal and had a son in 2014, they said. The duo had a quarrel over some trivial issue, following which Mallik allegedly slit the woman’s throat with a sharp weapon yesterday morning. A profusely bleeding Jharana died on the spot, the police added.
