Mahbubabad: TRS MLA Shankar Naik was on Thursday arrested by the police in a case related to improper behavior with woman IAS officer and Mahbubabad District Collector Preethi Meena.

On Wednesday, Shankar Naik reportedly touched Preeti Meena during a Haritha Haaram programme, perhaps with a motive to move forward. Shocked over the behavior of the MLA, the District Collector returned to her chamber and complained to her higher officials over the incident.

Infuriated over the behavior of Shanker Naik, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao warned him of suspending from the party if he doesn't mend his ways. KCR further directed Shanker Naik to tender an unconditional apology to the woman IAS officer.

Subsequently, Shanker Naik was arrested on the charges of assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of her duty under IPC Section 353, 354. Speaking to reporters, Shanker Naik apologized to the official. "Unknowingly, I might have touched her during the programme," he said.

Thorrur DSP Rajaratnam is appointed as Investigating Officer in the case. MLA Shanker Naik is taken into the police custody on Thursday morning and was released soon on personal surety, SP Koti Reddy said. Photographs and videos related to the case have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory. The chargesheet would be filed after receiving the report from the FSL.
