Trinamool MPs allege CBI misuse in Saradha scam

Trinamool Congress members today raised the issue of alleged misuse of CBI in the Saradha scam, drawing a sharp retort from the government in Lok Sabha.

As soon as the House met for the day, members from TMC members rushed to the Well, shouting slogans against the government, accusing it of misusing CBI. They referred to the president of a political party, saying he was behind the investigation agency targeting Trinamol leaders.
The TMC members said when BJP was in opposition, it used to dub CBI as 'Congress Bureau of Investigation'. They said even the Supreme Court had termed CBI as a 'caged parrot' and former head of the agency was made to recuse himself from 2G case by the apex court. Saugata Roy (TMC) said the CBI should no longer remain under the control of the Prime Minister and its operational control should be handed over to anti-corruption watchdog, Lokopal.
They agreed to return to their seats when Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu rose to make a statement. Naidu said the present government does not believe in misusing CBI like the previous UPA government. Hitting out at TMC, he said, Don't come to the rescue of people who are tainted or you will get a bad name.
He also protested reference to the BJP President in the House. After a war of words with BJP members, Trinamool MPs staged a walkout. When the TMC members were leaving the House, one of them, Sultan Ahmed, displayed a photograph purportedly showing Sahara group chief Subrata Roy shaking hands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
AIADMK members also rushed to the Well protesting a question in the Railway Board examination held on Sunday which had reference to former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's corruption case. Naidu said the question in the question paper was not relevant. He said government has taken note of the matter and the issue has been flagged before relevant authority. Satisfied with the statement, AIADMK members returned to their seats.
