Hyderabad: Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Monday said that the Centre is planning to pass the Transgender Bill aiming to empower the community by providing them a separate identity. The minister added that the way men and women have their rights even transgender community should be entitled to get their rights.

Ramdas said at a national workshop on 'Developing Modules for Sensitising Transgender People and Stakeholders', organized at the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD and PR) here.

"A bill has also come in 2016. That bill has been sent to the standing committee. Very soon, the Government of India, the government of Narendra Modi, will pass that bill to give you your rights," the minister said. Stressing on the importance of education for the welfare of transgenders, he favored giving reservation in jobs to this community.
