Goods and passenger train movement on the Kirandul-Kothavalasa (KK) line was disrupted due to breaches and falling of boulders on the track at various places due to heavy rains, officials said on Wednesday.
Forty meters of rail track was damaged as earth below the track caved in to an extent of seven meters at Boddavara near Srungavarapukota on the KK line due to heavy rains triggered by cyclone Nilam during the last few days.
The track restoration work is going on in full swing and the main line would be restored by Wednesday night, Additional Divisional Railway Manager C Madhusudhana Rao said in Visakahapatnam. It would take another 24 hours to restore the second line as huge boulders had fallen on the track, he said.
KK line is one of the busiest lines as it facilitates transportation of iron ore and coal from Kirundul in Chhattisgarh to several steel and power plants in many surrounding states.
