Khammam: Tragedy stuck a sister on Raksha Bandhan as she lost her younger brother in a freak mishap in Sathupally mandal of the district on Monday.

The decased K Vinodchari (22) was a native of Sathupally and was working in a private firm in Hyderabad. He completed diploma along with his friend Mallishetty Himakiran. However, after completion of the diploma Himakiran moved to Nellore in search of a job while Vinodchari headed to Hyderabad. On Sunday, they caught-up with each other on the occasion of Friendship Day. They headed to Bethupally lake in a car. Tragically, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it fell into the very lake that they planned to visit. Passersby rushed to their rescue and managed to fish them out alive. But as fate would have it, Vinodchari's cellphone slipped from his hand while he was being pulled out. In an effort to grab the falling cellphone, he let-go the hand of the rescuer. In a matter of seconds, Vinodchari slipped into the water and drowned.

At the Sathupally Hospital mortuary on Monday, heart-rending scenes were witnessed when Vinodchari's sister - Sirisha - broke down on seeing his body. She repeatedly tugged the body and urged her brother to wake-up and let her tie the rakhi. One of the onlookers, even brought a rakhi and gave which she tied to the hand of Vinodchari.

Her parents, Vijayalakshmi and Giribabu, along with relatives and friends could not control their tears at the poignant moment.
