The Telangana Information Technology Association (TITA) along with GHMC has launched mega campaign named ‘10000 Wala Greenathon’.

This year to give Diwali festival a green tinge, the Telangana Information Technology Association (TITA) along with GHMC has launched mega campaign named '10000 Wala Greenathon'.

This campaign targets to plant 10,000 saplings in and around Greater Hyderabad limits in order to counter the pollution caused by the bursting of crackers. TITA Global President Mr. Sundeep Kumar Makthala initiated the campaign by planting the first sapling at T-Hub, Gachibowli on Friday.

According to TITA President Mr. Sundeep Makthala, this campaign will start on 20th Oct 2017 (Diwali Next Day) and will last till 4th Nov 2017 (Karthika Pournami). TITA has decided to celebrate a noiseless and pollution free Diwali this year by not bursting firecrackers. The decision was taken in a bid to spread awareness about the hazardous effect of firecrackers on the ecosystem.

There is an increasing concern over environmental pollution and the safety issues involved in making and bursting fire crackers. On the day of Diwali and the following days, the particulate matter in the atmosphere is at its pinnacle that can attribute to serious health issues. Firecrackers contain chemical compounds that are full of poisonous gases and heavy metals. Inhaling these toxins can lead to many health problems.

Firecrackers contain chemical compounds that are full of poisonous gases and heavy metals. Inhaling these toxins can lead to many health problems. Every year, there are a number of cases reported where children sustain minor to major burns while bursting crackers. Many people even lose their eyesight in accidents caused during bursting crackers. Cases of fire breaking out at shops and markets storing explosives are reported every year, resulting in loss of lives and property. The noise from the firecrackers leave babies, toddlers, dogs, cats and birds scared. Apart from the above four points, the most important reason why we must celebrate a Green Diwali is to save the environment. It is usually around this season that the lowest layer of atmosphere is filled with smog, when smoke combines with fog. The condition is worst in metropolitan cities and urban hubs.

“In order to counter the pollution caused by fire crackers, TITA has decided to plant 10,000 saplings in GHMC limits." said TITA Global President Sundeep Kumar Makthala.

"Instead of choking the air with harmful firecrackers, members of TITA celebrated Green Diwali by bursting the colorful balloons filled with Chocolates, glitter and small pieces of bright colored paper. TITA has also announced 'Selfie with Sapling' and 'Selfie with Diyas' contest along with great giveaways for the best and unique selfie picture." said Makthala. He thanked GHMC for providing 10,000 saplings.

Hundreds of TITA members from various IT Companies already pledged to plant saplings across the GHMC limits. TITA Vice President Mr. Ranapratap Bojjam, Spokesperson Venkat Vanam, Rehmat Haq, Sampath Kumar M, Pradeep Poshala, Ramesh Podishetti were present in the launching event.
