New Delhi: This Diwali, lives of four people were lit up after a 24-year-old man, who was declared brain dead, gave them a new lease of life by donating his organs to them on Wednesday. Dharmendra Kumar (24) of Delhi suffered from a head injury after he fell from the terrace of his house. He was then rushed to a private hospital and was later shifted to AIIMS.

Dr Aarti Vij, chief of the Organ Retrieval and Banking Organisation (ORBO), AIIMS, said that Dharmendra Kumar couldn’t be resurrected and was declared brought dead. "After that, his parents were counseled and they agreed to donate the organs of their son," said Vij. The family donated his two kidneys, liver, heart and corneas.

The family donated his two kidneys, liver, heart and corneas. One of the kidneys was sent to the Safdarjung Hospital, while the other was transplanted into a patient at AIIMS. The heart was given to a 50-year-old patient while the liver was transplanted in a 45-year-old patient.

His corneas have been preserved for future use. Thus, Dharmendra has truly lit up the lives of four persons and he is living even after his death.
